Suemae’s earliest memory of art was watching her grandfather practicing calligraphy and painting ocean crabs. At a very early age, it was instilled in her to practice Chinese
Calligraphy several hours a day as a way of life. Art runs in the Lin family‘s DNA; her grandfather is a well known Chinese artist in Taiwan. Suemae participated in many art and calligraphy competitions while growing up in Taiwan. She and her family immigrated to the USA in 1975. She took several art classes during high school and college, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University in 1986.
In 2005, Suemae decided to pursue her first love of calligraphy and watercolor painting full-time. She enjoys sharing her love of Chinese brush painting with children and adults. Young and old alike enjoy learning the timeless quality of Chinese art & calligraphy. Suemae is very passionate about teaching Chinese Calligraphy & Chinese brush painting at SBCC/Continuing Adult Education and in her home studio.
